HIMSS Announces Cancellation of the 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition
March 6, 2020 – Orlando, Florida – With only 4 days before the HIMSS 2020 Global Health Conference & Exhibition was to commence, it was announced on March 5 that the event would be canceled.
In a letter from HIMSS organizers, they cited that the uncertain situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) has “made it impossible to accurately assess risk.” The decision to cancel the event included “concerns about the disproportionate risk to the healthcare system given the unique medical profile of Global Conference attendees and the consequences of potentially displacing healthcare workers during a critical time, as well as stressing the local health systems were there to be an adverse event.”
This will be the first time in 58 years the event has been canceled, but it is now clear that cancellation is unavoidable in order to meet HIMSS’ obligation to protect the health and safety of the global HIMSS community, employees and local residents, as well as for the healthcare providers tasked with keeping our U.S. and global communities healthy.

In response to this disappointing but understandable action, OptiSolve® would like to thank HIMSS, and specifically acknowledge the efforts of the Intelligent Health Association for creating the interactive Infection Prevention Room to highlight innovative solutions for healthcare and beyond. Natalie Amber, Director of Innovation & Development for OptiSolve, was scheduled to present at the conference in Orlando on “Surface Imaging for Advanced Infection Prevention” as well as participating in the expert panel on “Data-Enabled Infection Prevention”. She notes it is unfortunate that such a valuable conference had to be canceled but OptiSolve will look to online resources to share the presentation and interactive demonstration of the new mobile device and quality management system that was planned for HIMSS. Further details will be posted in the coming weeks.
